SheUltra welcomes Liz McColgan to its Algarve debut

SheUltra, the world's largest women's trail running event, will be held for the first time in Portugal, in the Algarve , on November 1st, featuring Olympic athlete Liz McColgan, world champion in the 10,000 meters and winner of the London, New York, and Tokyo marathons. The race course covers 44 km, between Praia da Falésia and the AP Victoria Sports & Beach Hotel, and is designed for women who walk or run at their own pace, without pressure or time limits.
McColgan , a SheUltra ambassador, brings not only her elite experience but also her personal story: in 2010 she was diagnosed with cancer, becoming an active voice in raising awareness of the importance of screening and early detection, symbolizing resilience, courage and unity, core values of the event.
Founded in 2024 in Wales by Huw Williams, who was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer, SheUltra was created to provide a safe and inclusive space for women. Since then, it has expanded to the UK and Italy, bringing together thousands of participants and raising over €92,000 for women's cancer support organizations.
In Portugal, the event also has a strong community commitment. In addition to fundraising through the JustGiving platform, SheUltra has already donated €3,000 from the SheUltra Legacy fund to the Faro Oncology Center and will provide two breast exam training mannequins, allowing nursing teams to practice and demonstrate self-exam techniques.
With this event, the Portuguese organization aims to mobilize the community, encourage participation in other initiatives, and use SheUltra as a platform for engagement, solidarity, and health.
According to Huw Williams, the event's creator: "SheUltra isn't about competition—it's about connection, health, and courage. We want every woman to leave thinking, 'If I can do this, I can do anything.'"
