Portugal eliminated by Germany in the round of 16

The Portuguese basketball team was eliminated from Eurobasket2025 today, losing 85-58 to reigning world champions Germany in the round of 16 match played in Riga, Latvia.
At the Xiaomi Arena, the team led by Mário Gomes, who are expected to finish the competition in 15th place among 24 teams, with two wins and six losses, were sensationally leading at half-time by 32-31, and heading into the final quarter were only asking for 52-51.
The 'quinas' team thus repeats the classification of its debut, in 1951, in an edition in which it fell in the group stage, 'losing' only to ninth place in 2007. In its last appearance, in 2011, it had been 21st, with five defeats in five games.
In Riga, where they also played in the first phase, Portugal beat the Czech Republic (62-50) at the start and Estonia (68-65) at the end, in the game that sealed the 'round of 16', and, in between, lost to Serbia (69-80), Turkey (54-95) and Latvia (62-78).
