Despite the rout, Paiva criticizes Botafogo's initial performance

Botafogo thrashed Internacional 4-0 at Nilton Santos this Sunday (11). Despite the large score, coach Renato Paiva criticized the Glorioso's performance in the first half, which ended 2-0 for the Rio de Janeiro team. Thus, the commander stated that the result was above what the team produced.

"The result is better than the performance in the first half. I think the first half is not for us to be winning 2-0, honestly," he began.

On the other hand, Paiva praised Botafogo's performance in the second half.

"But then we corrected a few things and, in fact, the second half was all ours in terms of playing and not letting the opponent play. We played very well there, and it ended up being a second half with a lot of what I like. But I reiterate: we started the game very well, the first 10, 15 minutes were of great quality. Then I have to understand if it was the goal that influenced it, we dropped back, so I have to correct it. I can't accept it or allow it", added the coach.

Renato Paiva also used the press conference to, of course, praise the result. He recalled that the victory will give Botafogo peace of mind in the upcoming games, especially against Estudiantes and Universidad de Chile.

"The importance is always that we work on the back of a victory that gives us confidence in terms of numbers. We haven't had the efficiency we had today in other matches. Today, especially in the first half, we didn't have as much possession of the ball as I want and like... We have to maintain very high levels and, if we feel that we have the conditions to do so, we have to try to close out the games," he concluded.
