Meta will move forward with shutting down its Messenger messaging app for Windows and Mac computers. The shutdown will take place on December 15th.
According to information confirmed by Meta to TechCrunch , the Messenger app for both platforms will no longer allow users to log into their respective accounts. Anyone attempting to do so will be redirected to the Facebook website to use Messenger.
"If you're using the Messenger desktop app, you'll receive an in-app notification once the deprecation process begins," Messenger's website states.
"You have 60 days to use the Messenger for Mac app before it is completely discontinued. Once the 60 days are up, you will no longer be able to use the Messenger for Mac app. We recommend deleting the app, as it will no longer be usable," Meta explains on the same page.
Note that Mac users will only be able to use Messenger online, while Windows users will have not only this option but also the ability to use the Facebook app - where Messenger can be accessed.
