Parties begin their 'rentrées' this week with two leaders making their debuts

Between parties, conventions and conferences, political parties are beginning to resume political activity this week, with PS Secretary General José Luís Carneiro and IL leader Mariana Leitão making their first 'rentrées'.
The PSD will kick off with the traditional Festa do Pontal, which will take place on Thursday at Calçadão de Quarteira, in Loulé, and which will feature a speech by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro.
Since becoming leader of the PSD in 2022, Montenegro has taken advantage of the political "return" to announce new measures for the country. Last year, for example, during his first visit to Pontal as prime minister, he announced an extraordinary supplement for the lowest pensions.
Chega, to date, has not yet defined how or where its political 'rentrée' will take place, which, in recent years, has always consisted of a dinner rally in the Algarve.
Among the party leaders who will be making their debut in 'rentrées' is the general secretary of the PS, José Luís Carneiro, elected in June, who, despite not having any event to formally mark the resumption of political activity, will participate in the party's Municipal Convention, on September 6, in Coimbra.
Announced by José Luís Carneiro shortly after being elected secretary-general of the PS, the Local Government Convention will serve, he said, to ensure that the party's local government candidates assume "their commitment to the values of freedom, equality and solidarity."
Another leader who will make her debut in the 'rentrées' is the new president of IL, Mariana Leitão, who will speak at the party's traditional event to mark the resumption of political activity: the "Agosto da Liberdade" party, on August 30 in Albufeira.
Livre, which usually organizes an event in September entitled “Os Setembristas”, which aims to promote the debate of ideas, has not yet finalized its 'rentrée' this year, and it is only known for now that it will take place on September 6th and 7th in Porto.
The PCP, as is customary, will mark its return with the Avante! Festival, on September 5, 6 and 7 at Quinta da Atalaia, in Seixal, but, before the traditional communist event, the party's general secretary, Paulo Raimundo, will already have several initiatives in the country, for example a dinner rally this Friday in Vila Real de Santo António.
The CDS-PP only indicated that its 'rentrée' will take place on September 6th in Vale de Cambra, while the BE will once again organize its traditional Socialism Forum, between August 30th and 31st in Coimbra.
Among the speakers who will participate in this debate forum, in addition to the party coordinator, Mariana Mortágua, are MEPs Catarina Martins (BE) and Marta Temido (PS) and the former party leader Francisco Louçã.
PAN is still working out the details of its 'rentrée', but it already anticipates that it will try to associate several events with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the animal protection law, which will be celebrated on the weekend of 13 and 14 September, starting with a conference in Lisbon on 12 September.
The JPP's sole deputy, Filipe Sousa, says he will not announce any 'rentrée', because his party "does not live on starts, it is always on the move."
"We continue to work on the ground, listening, making proposals, and being present. September will be just another chapter in this mission," he told Lusa.
