Israel to mobilize thousands of reservists for Gaza

The number of children who have died in Gaza due to malnutrition or starvation since the start of the Israeli offensive rose to 100 on Sunday, according to the latest count published by the Gaza Health Ministry.
This number means that almost half of the total deaths from malnutrition, which now stands at 210, have been children during the nearly two-year Israeli offensive against Gaza. Hospitals in the Strip recorded five deaths from starvation on Saturday, including two children, according to a statement from the Gaza Ministry of Health.
During July, deaths in Gaza due to lack of food soared after months of blockade of humanitarian aid by Israel, which controls all access to the territory. Between March 2 and May 19, the blockade was total, while the flow of aid is now very limited and insufficient, humanitarian organizations report.
Meanwhile, Israel reported that in the last week, between August 3 and 9, 1,900 trucks of humanitarian aid were collected and distributed in the Gaza Strip through the Zikim crossings (in the north) and Kerem Shalom (in the south).
Mohamed Salah criticized UEFA for honoring the "Palestinian Pelé" Suleiman al-Obeid without mentioning that he was killed, according to the Palestinian federation, by Israeli gunfire during a humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza.
The former Palestinian player was killed on Wednesday "following gunfire from the Israeli occupation that targeted people awaiting humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip," the Palestinian Football Association announced on its website. UEFA responded by posting on the social network X: "Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the 'Palestinian Pelé.' A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest times."
Can you tell us how he died, where, and why? https://t.co/W7HCyVVtBE

"Can you tell us how he died, where and why?" replied Liverpool's Egyptian forward on the same platform.
Suleiman al-Obeid, who played 24 international matches for the Palestinian national team and scored more than 100 goals throughout his career, was 41 and a father of five, according to the Palestinian football federation.
The families of the hostages and dead soldiers called for a national strike in Israel this Sunday, considering this the most effective way to contest the security cabinet's decision to move forward with an expansion of the military operation to take control of Gaza.
According to the Haaretz newspaper, the families argue that a nationwide shutdown will prioritize the release of hostages held by Hamas since October 7, 2023, as well as greater security for the troops. "Stop to save our hostages and soldiers," the group of family members announced, urging the rest of society to show solidarity and join the protest.
Brazil "deplores" Israel's plan to take control of Gaza City, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) declared on Saturday night, a day after the plan was announced by Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
According to a statement from Itamary, the incursion is a measure that will worsen the “catastrophic humanitarian situation of the Palestinian civilian population, ravaged by a scenario of deaths, forced displacement, destruction and hunger.”
Brasília emphasized that the Gaza Strip is "an inseparable part of the State of Palestine," and therefore renewed its call for the "complete and immediate withdrawal" of Israeli troops from the territory. Lula da Silva's government also emphasized the urgency of a ceasefire, as well as the release of hostages and the "unhindered" entry of humanitarian aid.
The Israeli government is expected to move forward this Sunday with a plan to mobilize tens of thousands more reservists in order to achieve its announced goal of taking control of Gaza, Israel's Channel 13 reported, as cited by Al-Jazeera .
According to the information gathered, approval of this plan could mean that the number of mobilized reservists could rise to 430,000 by the end of November.
