Minister of Education and Rector of the University of Porto called to Parliament

Parliament approved, this Tuesday, several requests to hear the Minister of Education and the rector of the University of Porto, in Parliament, after António Sousa Pereira said he had been subjected to pressure from “influential people” to accept candidates for the Medicine course.
The requests, presented by the PSD, Chega, PS, IL, Livre, BE and JPP, were voted on this Tuesday in the parliamentary committee on Education and Science.
Chega, Livre, BE, and JPP wanted to urgently summon both Minister Fernando Alexandre and the rector of the University of Porto to the parliamentary committee, while the Socialist Party (PS) requested only the rector's hearing. On the contrary, the IL IL requested only the presence of the Minister of Education, and the PSD proposed hearing the dean of the Faculty of Medicine, in addition to the university's head and the minister.
At the same meeting, an urgent hearing with Fernando Alexandre regarding the unfreezing of tuition fees was also approved. The Minister will also be interviewed about the dissolution of the Foundation for Science and Technology and the future of the national science system.
