The First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) will begin hearing testimony from defense witnesses for defendants in Unit 3 of the criminal case investigating the coup plot this Monday, the 21st . The sessions will take place via videoconference until next Wednesday, the 23rd.
The witnesses were listed after the defendants' defenses presented their arguments. All deny involvement in coup plots and are requesting acquittal. The Attorney General's Office accuses the group of being part of a criminal organization that allegedly drafted a coup-mongering letter addressed to the commanders of the Armed Forces and planned the deaths of officials , including Supreme Court Justice Alexandre Moraes; President Lula (Workers' Party); and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (Brazil's Socialist Party).
The Attorney General's Office waived the testimony of prosecution witnesses, limiting the hearing to the defense's version. Moraes ordered that merely supporting witnesses (i.e., those who merely attest to the defendants' good conduct) be replaced with written statements.
