Lisbon City Council President Carlos Moedas has canceled all campaign initiatives for the coming days.
"Following the tragic and devastating accident involving the Elevador da Glória, the "Por ti, Lisboa" coalition expresses its deepest regret for what happened and extends its condolences to the families of the victims," said the mayor.
"Given the gravity of the situation, candidate Carlos Moedas and the "Por ti, Lisboa" candidacy have canceled their entire campaign schedule planned for the coming days," he concluded.
The Mayor of Lisbon was at the presentation of the “Juntar Lisboa” convention where he was going to present “my vision of the future for Lisbon” at the Ajuda Botanical Gardens, when he had to rush to the scene of the accident.
Carlos Moedas ordered the suspension of operations of the Bica and Lavra elevators and the Graça Funicular.
