Cape Verdean President expresses solidarity after accident involving elevator in Glória

The Cape Verdean President today expressed “solidarity with the people of Portugal” following Wednesday's accident in the Glória elevator in Lisbon, in which 17 people died and one Cape Verdean was injured.
In a post on his official Facebook page, José Maria Neves said he called his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, “to offer him all our solidarity, on his behalf and on behalf of the Cape Verdean people.”
The head of state added that, according to updated data on the tragic accident, there is a Cape Verdean citizen among the victims.
The Glória elevator in Lisbon derailed on Wednesday at 6:04 pm, causing at least 17 deaths and 21 injuries.
Of the 17 dead, 15 were confirmed at the scene of the accident and two died in the hospitals to which they had been transported.
The Government declared a day of national mourning today, while Lisbon City Council decided to adopt three days of municipal mourning.
The Glória elevator connects Restauradores to the Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara, in Bairro Alto, a route of approximately 265 meters and is very popular with tourists.
