Fátima Bernardes says no to Rede Globo and the broadcaster shelve new program

TV Globo has decided to end the development of the new program created by Fátima Bernardes . The journalist's initiative, which began to be formatted in March 2024, had two pilots recorded, but both were rejected by the broadcaster's top management.

The show, a late-night talk show with interviews and musical performances, was considered too similar to the beginning of "Encontro", which the presenter hosted between 2012 and 2022.

The reformulation of the format was requested in January of this year, when the management pointed out that the project should seek differentiation. In the second attempt, Fátima presented a jazz dance number with LED scenography, but, even with the adjustments, the revised version did not convince the house's executives either.

Permanent suspension

Initially, the information given to the team was that the project could only be re-evaluated in 2026, with a possible premiere in 2027. However, a few days later, the presenter herself was informed that the plan had been officially shelved. When contacted, Globo's press office confirmed that "at this time, the project has no development forecast".

The team involved in pre-production has already been reassigned to other programs on the network and has been advised to keep the matter completely confidential. The talk show would be broadcast live weekly during prime time, and was being considered internally as a potential major new addition to the network's schedule.

Comparisons rejected

The broadcaster even signaled that it expected something with a structure similar to Hebe Camargo's program in the 1980s and 1990s. The veteran, who became famous by hosting artists on her famous sofa, was considered a stylistic inspiration. Fátima, however, dismissed any comparison.

"Everything has its time. I think that if Hebe were alive, she would be doing different things than she did. I prefer to think about my own story, try to find my own way," he told Mônica Bergamo's column in December 2024.

Recent paths of Fatima

Fátima Bernardes ended her fixed contract with Globo at the end of 2022, after more than 30 years with the network. Since then, she has worked with per-job contracts. In 2023, she hosted the last season of "The Voice Brasil" and also hosted the program "Assim Como a Gente" on the GNT channel.

Globo's decision to definitively shelve the project marks another important chapter in the career of the journalist, who remains one of the most recognized names on Brazilian television, even amid the network's recent internal restructuring.
