Blepharoplasty: when to invest in the procedure performed by Gretchen

Recently, Gretchen became the talk of the internet once again. The reason? The artist revealed that she had blepharoplasty and showed the results of the procedure. The 66-year-old singer underwent plastic surgery on her eyelids to remove excess skin and fat. The case raised questions about the need for the surgery for functional reasons, as well as aesthetic ones.
Blepharoplasty, a surgery also performed by Luana Piovani and Letícia Spiller, is a procedure that aims to remove excess skin, fat, or sagging from the eyelids, providing a more youthful and rested look.

According to plastic surgeon Ingrid Lückmann, correcting excess skin on the eyelids can go far beyond a rejuvenated appearance. In many cases, it's a matter of visual health and daily well-being.
“Whether for genetic and constitutional reasons in younger patients, or as they age, people acquire weight in the upper eyelid due to various anatomical changes that can impair the visual field and cause eye fatigue at the end of the day,” the doctor explains to Metrópoles .
Ingrid Lückmann emphasizes the importance of an accurate diagnosis to assess whether the case is purely aesthetic or has a medical indication.
"Most of the time, when a patient complains, there's already a functional indication. However, many don't realize how excess skin and the weight of eyelid bags impact their routine until they undergo surgery," says the facial procedures specialist.
Care and resultsAfter blepharoplasty, Ingrid Lückmann emphasizes the importance of following proper post-operative care. Recommendations include approximately one week of rest. Surgery doesn't always require complete leave from work, depending on the professional activity.
"It's a minor surgery, with specific care such as cold compresses and sun protection. Overall, the post-operative period is very uneventful. Results can be seen after around 20 to 30 days, when there is a significant reduction in edema," says the professional.

Some habits that are harmful to health can stimulate a process called inflammaging: a type of inflammation that doesn't show any signs, but accelerates aging and the development of diseases.

Smoking, stress, sleep deprivation, a sedentary lifestyle, alcohol abuse, frequent unprotected sun exposure and, especially, poor diet are some of the habits that cause inflammation in the body.

According to experts, the Western diet is rich in pro-inflammatory foods, which can cause serious damage that culminates in metabolic diseases and premature aging.

One way to prevent premature aging is to maintain a healthy diet. Eating nutritious foods can promote overall health and reduce inflammation.

Foods like blueberries, dark chocolate, and spinach are rich in flavonoids, a chemical that provides health benefits. Besides being delicious, these foods are also considered to help prevent wrinkles, as they have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

On the other hand, refined carbohydrates, foods like red and processed meat, or those rich in sugar are pro-inflammatory and are linked to the development of cardiovascular disease.

Introducing vitamins E, C and D, omega-3, turmeric, pre and probiotics, resveratrol, astaxanthin and other anti-inflammatory supplements into your diet, with proper medical guidance, can help.

Exercises that strengthen bones and muscles are essential to prevent disease and other health problems. In addition to improving balance, exercising at least twice a week is one of the keys to extending life expectancy, controlling weight, and preventing premature aging.

Managing stress levels also makes all the difference. Hormones released during stressful situations, when repeatedly triggered, contribute to chronic inflammation. According to experts, practicing yoga and other relaxation exercises can help calm the nervous system.

Giving up addictions like smoking and alcoholism, for example, also helps fight inflammation and prevent health problems like lung cancer.

And last but not least, get a good night's sleep. Getting a good night's sleep is half the battle to achieving a good quality of life and preventing premature aging. While we sleep, the immune system produces protective substances that fight infection, while poor sleep can trigger problems like obesity and dementia.

Sleep plays a fundamental role in providing physical and mental restoration. It reorganizes brain activity and prepares the body for a new day.
Tetra Images/Getty ImagesAccording to the plastic surgeon, blepharoplasty offers significant benefits, both functionally and aesthetically. The procedure gives the patient a more youthful and rested appearance, especially around the eyes, and also helps boost self-esteem.
"There are studies that prove these results not only in the professional sphere, but also in changes in psychological patterns and in the personal and emotional lives of patients," concludes the doctor.
