XTB introduces new features to enhance account security

XTB – The dream of a soft landing
XTB is introducing new features designed to improve the security of its users' accounts. "Investors now have the option to choose a new 2FA authentication method, TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password), which involves generating unique codes in apps like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Apple Passwords," the brokerage reveals.
XTB believes that cybersecurity issues "represent one of the most significant challenges for financial technology companies worldwide. Therefore, XTB is constantly improving its internal procedures and the technological solutions it uses."
“Since 2024, two-factor authentication (2FA) has been available to XTB customers in the form of codes received via SMS – with the ability to add up to 10 trusted devices, so as to avoid using SMS codes every time they use the feature,” adds XTB.
Despite extensive communication efforts, "only just over 12% of XTB clients in Portugal use two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect their accounts." Therefore, to ensure investor security, the process of activating two-factor authentication for existing clients will begin in the first half of August, XTB announced.
Additionally, by Q4 2025, all new customers will have two-factor authentication enabled at the time of account creation.
"The security of XTB's client funds is our top priority. Therefore, we have taken measures in three areas: improving and developing two-factor authentication methods, mandatory 2FA protection for client accounts, and active communication and education on security. We recognize that online fraud poses a real threat, which is why we provide investors with protective tools and actively engage in cybersecurity education," says Eduardo Silva, Director of XTB in Portugal.
"The Product Department and the Security Department work together to ensure that the solutions we implement combine maximum security of funds with the convenience and speed of transactions," he adds.
