Vila Velha de Ródão hosts World Animation Festival

The Tejo Arts and Culture House, in Vila Velha de Ródão, will host the 24th edition of the World Animation Festival from the 23rd to the 28th, a global event that pays homage to World Animation Day .
The event is celebrated all over the world, on the occasion of the celebrations of October 28, the day on which the first step in animation was marked by the inventor Charles-Émile Reynaud when, in 1892, he projected the first film in the history of animated cinema, “Pauvre Pierrot”, at the Grévin Museum, in Paris.
In a statement, the municipality of Vila Velha de Ródão , in the district of Castelo Branco, explained that the objective of the event “is to bring animated cinema in its entirety to various locations in the country, especially outside the major cultural centers, because this is also the best way to create new audiences”.
The program for the 24th edition of the World Animation Festival includes film sessions for children, young people, families and the general public, and competitive sessions for the 2025 National Animation Award.
During the six days of the event, there will also be masterclasses with national and international authors (Rodrigo Goulão de Sousa, Varya Yakovleva, Isabela Littger, Juan Pablo Zaramella, Xavier Kawa Topor), workshops aimed at the community's senior population and informal meetings with authors.
The initiative is organized by Casa da Animação – Cultural Association, with co-production by Ocidental Filme and support from the municipality of Vila Velha de Ródão.
The activities take place at the Casa de Artes e Cultura do Tejo and entry is free.
On the 28th, the day on which World Animation Day is celebrated, the event ends with several screenings for the local community and the closing ceremony also includes the presentation of the 2025 National Animation Award.
