Summary The São Paulo government fined Taurus Armas S/A more than R$25 million for breach of contract between 2007 and 2011 and extended the company's ban from participating in public tenders for another two years.
The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat (SSP), headed by Guilherme Derrite , imposed a fine of just over R$25 million on weapons manufacturer Taurus Armas S/A .
The fine, which appears in the Official Gazette on Friday, the 11th, occurred due to contractual penalties committed between 2007 and 2011. During this period, Taurus was hired eleven times by the SSP.
According to the government, there was partial non-execution of eleven direct contracts due to the lack of bidding requirements during the supply of more than 98,000 .40 S&W pistols, models 24/7 and 640, to the São Paulo government.
Taurus S/A has been banned from participating in São Paulo state government tenders since July 2020, while the process is still ongoing. In yesterday's ruling, the government determined that Taurus will remain barred from participating in new government tenders for another two years.
Terra contacted Taurus Armas to ask if the company would comment on the decision, but did not receive a response by the time of publication. The space remains open.
