PSI closes lower despite Mota-Engil's 6% rise

It was a lukewarm Thursday in European stock markets, which closed divided between slight gains in CAC and 0.4% falls in the Footsie, on a day marked by multiple financial disclosures in the US, with Nvidia taking the biggest role.
"The PSI closed negatively, as did the Banking sector, and the EDP group was weighed down by the headwinds in Utilities," Millennium BCP analysts highlighted.
The Portuguese index fell -0.17% to 7,802.78 points, with BCP losing -1.27% to €0.7288; EDP falling -0.75% to €3.832, and EDP Renováveis losing -1.25% to close at €10.24. Ibersol also fell -1.23% to €9.64.
Four stocks closed in the green. Mota-Engil led the gains, rising 6.14% to €5.050. Galp followed, rising 1.25% to €16.62 after AlphaValue raised its price target to €21.50.
The other stocks that closed higher were Jerónimo Martins (+0.57% to €21.04); REN (+0.34% to €2.990); and Navigator (+0.06% to €3.326). Altri remained unchanged compared to yesterday's close.
In Europe, the closing price did not reveal a clear trend. The Stoxx 600 fell 0.20%, while the Eurostoxx 50 rose 0.07% to 5,396.73 points.
The FTSE 100 fell 0.42% to 9,216.8 points and the DAX lost 0.03% to 24,039.9 points.
But the IBEX closed up 0.34% (15,071.4 points); the FTSE MIB rose 0.23% to 42,447.1 points; and the French CAC40 appreciated 0.21% to 5,772.6 points.
The French stock index was highlighted positively, driven by the surge in Pernod Ricard in reaction to accounts, by the Automotive sector, which saw sales in Europe grow in July, and by listed luxury goods companies, such as LVMH, Kering and Hermes.
The euro appreciated 0.39% to 1.1684 dollars.
In oil, Brent falls 0.50% to $67.71 per barrel.
