Mbappé scores twice and gives Real Madrid their second victory

Frenchman Kylian Mbappé was once again decisive in Real Madrid's second victory in the Spanish football league, scoring two of the goals in Sunday's 3-0 victory at newly promoted Oviedo on the second day.

After scoring the winning goal against Osasuna (1-0) in the first round, Mbappé practically decided the match in Oviedo, scoring in the 37th and 83rd minutes, with Brazilian Vinicius Jr. coming off the bench to provide an assist and make it 3-0 in the 90+3.

In the debut of Portuguese defender Renato Veiga — he came on at half-time — Villarreal also secured their second victory in the Spanish League, beating Girona 5-0 at home, in a match in which Tajon Buchanan was the star player.

The Canadian forward scored a hat trick, with goals in the 16th, 28th and 64th minutes, after Ivorian Nicolas Pépé had opened the scoring in the seventh minute, with Rafa Marín scoring the other goal for the "yellow submarine" in the 25th.

Villarreal leads the Spanish league, level on six points with FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, all three teams with two wins, but still within reach of Getafe, Rayo Vallecano or Athletic Bilbao.

After being 2-0 down, Real Sociedad, who had Gonçalo Guedes on the pitch from the 80th minute onwards, managed to draw 2-2 with Espanyol, who now occupy a provisional fourth place, with four points, two more than the team from San Sebastián, who are 11th.

The Catalans took the lead through Pere Milla (10 minutes) and Javi Puado (45+1), who scored a penalty, which he had to retake after missing the first attempt, but the Basques equalized through Ánder Barrenetxea (61) and the Icelandic Orri Óskarsson (69).

In the first match of the day, Osasuna picked up their first three points, beating Valencia 1-0 at home, with Croatian Ante Budimir scoring the only goal of the match after just nine minutes.

With Portuguese player André Almeida not coming off the bench, Valencia finished the match down to 10 men, after captain José Gayá was sent off in the 22nd minute.
