Gilmar decides to postpone public hearing on pejotization

Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes postponed a public hearing to discuss the so-called “pejotização” from September 10 to October 6.
The possibility of a new change is not ruled out, as the dean cited October 6th as a "probable date." The change, he said, was due to "internal organizational issues" within the Court.
If the Supreme Court had followed its original schedule, the hearing would have coincided with the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the other members of the attempted coup's nucleus 1, scheduled for September 2, 3, 9, 10, and 12. The vote would have taken place in the First Chamber, of which Gilmar is not a member.
The hearing will discuss the validity of hiring self-employed workers or legal entities to provide services. When calling the hearing, Gilmar stated that the practice has become recurrent and, therefore, it is essential to define objective criteria to characterize potential fraud.
In April, the minister suspended all ongoing lawsuits on the matter in the country, pending a ruling by the Supreme Federal Court. In addition to experts, the debates will feature representatives from the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate, the Ministries of Labor and Social Security, and the Superior Labor Court.
