Brussels wants EU budget of €2 trillion by 2034

The European Commission today proposed a long-term European Union (EU) budget until 2034 of two trillion euros, up from the current 1.2 trillion, which includes more national contributions and new taxes.
"The next MFF [Multiannual Financial Framework] will be an ambitious EU budget with a total size of two trillion euros," announced European Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin, speaking at a hearing at the European Parliament ahead of the proposal's official presentation to the press in Brussels.
After several hours of negotiations between European commissioners, the first package of proposals on the next MFF 2028-2034 was presented, with a total envelope of two trillion euros in commitments (at current prices), based on national contributions (based on gross national income) of 1.26%.
The current long-term EU budget is €1.21 trillion (which includes around €800 billion in current prices from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, which finances the RRPs), involving national contributions of 1.1%.
