Loulé Criativo dedicates creative residency to palm, esparto and sugarcane

The Creative Residency «Palma, Esparto e Cana», an initiative promoted by the Loulé Criativo project that brings together 12 Portuguese and Spanish artisans, designers and artists, with experience in manual work and a deep interest in experimentation and innovation with traditional materials, runs until August 8, in Loulé.
For 11 days, participants immerse themselves in the world of Algarve plant fibers, palm, esparto and cane, under the technical guidance of five local master craftsmen.
The program is intense and includes field trips to collect materials, workshops on preparing and transforming fibers, and specialized training in ancestral techniques.
The focus is on practice, sharing knowledge and techniques, and creating original pieces.
The initiative is organized by Loulé City Council , as part of the Loulé Criativo project, which aims to enhance intangible heritage, promote traditional arts and encourage the intersection of tradition and contemporaneity.
More than just a training experience, “Palma, Esparto e Cana” represents a meeting place between generations, cultures and ways of doing things.
"In these days of creation and sharing, Loulé establishes itself as a living center of artisanal innovation and a place where traditions gain new life," notes the municipality.
