See how 'Vale Tudo' ended in 1989
The final chapter of the first version of "Vale Tudo" aired on January 6, 1989. The soap opera surprised viewers by not punishing the bad-natured characters, finally brought together a beloved couple and explained once and for all who killed Odete Roitman (Beatriz Segall). In the remake, the final chapter will air this Friday (17).
Remember how the original version ended:
In the final chapter, the killer's identity is finally revealed: Leila (Cássia Kis) killed Odete by mistake. But she is never punished. Leila confesses the truth to Bartolomeu and manages to escape with Marco Aurélio (Reginaldo Faria) and Bruno (Danton Mello).
On the plane, the TCA businessman makes the gesture of "giving the finger" to Brazil and flies away — the scene became one of the most emblematic in Brazilian television drama.

In the final chapter, Afonso pursues Solange (Lídia Brondi) and declares his love for her. He believes her daughter, Marcinha, is Mário Sérgio's (Marcos Palmeira), but offers to care for the girl "as if she were my own." Later, Solange reveals that the baby is his daughter.
"You're very oblivious, huh, Afonso? Well, you were married to Fátima for two years without knowing she was cheating on you... in fact, you just had to look at Marcinha a little more closely. She looks just like you," she says, much to Afonso's excitement.
We see the weddings of Poliana (Pedro Paulo Rangel) and Íris (Cristiana Galvão plays the character, who doesn't appear in the remake). Afonso and Solange get married, and Heleninha (Renata Sorrah) marries William (Dennis Carvalho), who also doesn't appear in the remake. Sober for a year, Heleninha appears happy and successful in her art gallery.

Maria de Fátima (Glória Pires) is working every day (which, for her, is a struggle). But she also ends up doing well: César (Carlos Alberto Riccelli) arranges an arranged marriage for her with an Italian prince, who needs a wife to disguise his homosexuality. The episode hints that, together, the three will form a threesome. Her son, meanwhile, ends up with Raquel.
In the original version, Consuelo is single, and Jarbas is her brother. She has an affair with Olavo, who in turn is with her out of interest. At the end of the telenovela, the photographer is arrested, and she visits him in jail every Sunday (to her family, she tells them she's at church).

Lucimar (Maria Gladys), a cleaning lady, bets on the number of Odete Roitman's grave and wins the animal lottery. With the jackpot, she disappears for a while and returns, changed, straight from Argentina. She reappears dressed as a socialite, with a hairstyle very similar to Odete's, and despising Brazilians.

While Marco Aurélio manages to escape, Ivan (Antônio Fagundes) isn't as lucky as he is, not paying for his crimes. He's sentenced to two years in prison for bribery to release equipment held at customs. "Here in this country, it's prudish to be upright, to be honest," he says.
He serves a year and, upon release, is nominated by Afonso (Cássio Gabus Mendes) for the vice presidency of the TCA. Later, he publishes the book "Vale Tudo" (Everything's Worth), based on his life experiences.
He buys a house to live with Raquel (Regina Duarte). Happy, the two star in the soap opera's final scene, walking together along the beach.
