The Attorney General's Office requests the conviction of Bolsonaro and seven others in the coup plot.

Closing arguments were submitted within the deadline. Attorney General Paulo Gonet had until 11:59 p.m. on Monday to submit the document to the Supreme Federal Court. The document was submitted minutes before the deadline.

The Attorney General's Office cited Bolsonaro's interview with UOL in its closing arguments. In May, the president confirmed to UOL that he met with the heads of the Armed Forces to discuss a possible coup decree.

The former president was indicted by the Attorney General's Office (PGR) in February. Attorney General Paulo Gonet filed charges against Bolsonaro and 33 others for attempted coup d'état, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law , criminal organization, aggravated damage, and damage to a listed building.

The Attorney General's Office (PGR) claims that the former president knew about and approved the so-called "coup minutes." The decree contained measures to implement a coup d'état in the country and prevent President Lula, the winner of the 2022 election, from taking office. According to the PGR, Bolsonaro was also aware of the "Green and Yellow Dagger" plan to kill Lula, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, and Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

Bolsonaro's defense says he "repudiated January 8th." Attorney Celso Vilardi also complained about the lack of access to the full evidence. He stated that he obtained all the audio recordings and documents cited in the investigation, but did not have access to the raw material seized by the Federal Police. Therefore, Vilardi says he only had access to the "prosecution's cut" of the material, but that the defense would have the right to make its own cut.

The accusation was divided into five groups to expedite the proceedings. Bolsonaro is at the "crucial core" of the coup plot .
