Supreme Court resumes testimony from witnesses to the coup plot this Monday

The STF (Supreme Federal Court) will begin hearing from this Monday (14) the witnesses of the PGR (Attorney General's Office) and the defenses of the defendants of cores 2, 3 and 4, who respond to the Court for attempted coup d'état after the 2022 elections. The testimonies continue until next Thursday (23).

Senators Hamilton Mourão (Republicans-RS), Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), federal deputy Eduardo Pazuello (PL-RJ) and the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto , are listed to testify. In addition to the whistleblower, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid .

The testimonies will take place in the courtrooms of the STF annex building . Witnesses will testify via videoconference. Recordings by journalists will not be permitted in the courtroom, but recordings made by the Court itself will be added to the court records.

Division of testimonies

This Monday, the prosecution witnesses presented by the Attorney General's Office will testify. At 2 p.m., Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid will also testify as an informant, having signed the plea bargain agreement. His testimony will be shared across all three cases and will be broadcast to the First Chamber.

The hearings of defense witnesses for Core 2 will take place between July 15th and 21st, and can be attended in the First Chamber's session room.

The hearings for Group 4 will be held on July 15th and 16th in the Second Panel's session room. The hearings of defense witnesses for Group 3 will be held between the 21st and 23rd and can be watched in the Second Panel's session room.

Defendants by cores

In core 2, the defendants are:

  • Fernando de Sousa Oliveira (Federal Police Delegate)
  • Filipe Garcia Martins Pereira (former international advisor to the Presidency of the Republic)
  • Marcelo Costa Câmara (reserve army colonel and former presidential advisor)
  • Marília Ferreira de Alencar (delegate and former director of Intelligence of the Federal Police)
  • Mario Fernandes (Army reserve general)
  • Silvinei Vasques (former director-general of the Federal Highway Police)

In Nucleus 3, there are: the three Army colonels Bernardo Romão Correa Netto , Fabrício Moreira de Bastos and Márcio Nunes de Resende Jr.; five lieutenant colonels Hélio Ferreira Lima , Rafael Martins de Oliveira , Rodrigo Bezerra de Azevedo , Ronald Ferreira de Araújo Jr. and Sérgio Ricardo Cavaliere de Medeiros ; the reserve general Estevam Theophilo Gaspar de Oliveira and the Federal Police agent Wladimir Matos Soares .

Core 4, the defendants are: Ailton Moraes Barros (former Army major); Ângelo Denicoli , (Army reserve major); Giancarlo Rodrigues (Army sub-lieutenant); Guilherme Almeida (Army lieutenant colonel); Reginaldo Abreu , (Army colonel); Marcelo Bormevet (Federal Police agent); and Carlos Cesar Moretzsohn Rocha (president of the Legal Vote Institute).

All defendants are facing charges before the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for the crimes of attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, attempted coup d'état, participation in an armed criminal organization, qualified damage and deterioration of listed heritage.
