PSP arrests suspects in Peniche for stabbing young man in Leiria

The PSP arrested two young men in Peniche suspected of stabbing another man in April in the Coronel Jaime Filipe da Fonseca Municipal Park, in Leiria, the Public Security Police (PSP) revealed today in a statement.
The two suspects, aged 19 and 20, were arrested as part of an operation carried out on Thursday with a view to executing two arrest warrants and house searches.
Present in court for the first judicial interrogation, one of the suspects was prohibited from contacting the victim by any means and the other was placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet and prohibited from leaving the municipality.
In the investigation launched since the crime, the PSP concluded that three young men, near the Leiria Civic Center, "inflicted several blows using bladed weapons on another 17-year-old and then stole a coat, a cell phone and a shoulder bag from him."
Several investigations carried out allowed the PSP to identify two young men, the same ones who were arrested on Thursday.
The third is yet to be identified.
During the house searches carried out, the PSP seized the clothing used in the crime, a katana, two bladed weapons, a balaclava, as well as 71.27 grams of marijuana, 80.98 grams of hashish and various materials related to drug trafficking.
In April, a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in Coronel Jaime Filipe da Fonseca Municipal Park, in Leiria, and had to be hospitalized, without being in danger of death.
In a statement, the PSP explained that the young man was wounded with a knife in the armpit region, but was not in danger of death, having been transported to the Santo André Hospital.
During the investigation, steps were taken to collect evidence, one of the witnesses who were at the scene was interviewed, and “the images from the city's video surveillance system” were also preserved to identify the perpetrator of the crime.
