The Left Bloc of Nazaré demands this Tuesday the immediate and definitive closure of the old sewage pipeline near Canto das Pedras, on Praia da Nazaré, after a new episode of polluting discharge occurred this Monday, August 12.
According to the party, a runoff with foul odors and water contamination has again occurred, a situation that has already led to several people requiring hospital care. The Left Bloc considers the situation "extremely serious and unacceptable," emphasizing that the pipeline, whose connection to the sewage network "should have been discontinued for several years," remains operational.
The repeat of the incident, just days after a similar incident, has led the party to demand the urgent and safe adaptation of Nazaré's sewage system to prevent further occurrences, as well as the public disclosure of water quality analyses and ongoing corrective measures.
"The well-being of the population and visitors must be paramount. Nazaré cannot allow serious failures in the sanitation network to compromise people's health and the image of our town as an excellent tourist destination," states the Left Bloc, which holds the municipal government accountable for immediately clarifying the origin of the problem and explaining why the pipeline was never deactivated.
