Laura Pigossi falls in qualifying, and Brazil will only have João Fonseca and Bia Haddad in singles at the US Open

Laura Pigossi 's dream of reaching the singles draw at the US Open , the final Grand Slam of the season, for the first time in her career, came to an end this Thursday, in a match that lasted two days after being stopped by rain the day before. The Brazilian was eliminated by the young Australian sensation Emerson Jones , 17, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
With Pigossi's elimination, still in the second round of qualifying, the country will have only two representatives in the singles draw: Bia Haddad in the women's and João Fonseca in the men's, in which Thiago Monteiro and Thiago Wild also failed to advance in the preliminary phase.
The break streak continued at the start of a crazy second set with the Brazilian gaining the upper hand, opening up a 3-1 lead. However, the joy was short-lived and Emerson Jones soon recovered to make it 5-3, stringing together four points by capitalizing on two more break points.
Under pressure, Pigossi couldn't afford to give up her serve any longer. She saved two match points on her serve, reducing the deficit to 5-4. Jones, however, showed concentration and closed out the match at 6-4.
