The Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency department at Caldas da Rainha Hospital will be closed this Saturday, August 23, according to the schedules published on the National Health Service (NHS) website. This is the third consecutive weekend that this department of the Caldas da Rainha hospital has operated under limited conditions.
The closure of this unit is part of a broader set of constraints that will affect several hospitals across the country. In total, five emergency departments will be closed on Saturday and four on Sunday, covering specialties in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Pediatrics.
In addition to Caldas da Rainha, the Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency departments at the hospitals in Setúbal, Barreiro, and Aveiro will also be closed on Saturday. On Sunday, the emergency departments in Barreiro and Aveiro will remain closed, along with the Garcia da Orta Hospital (Almada). The Pediatrics emergency department at Vila Franca de Xira Hospital will be closed on both days.
There will also be emergency services operating on a referral basis, receiving only cases referred by INEM or the SNS24 line, as is the case with the pediatric wards at Amadora-Sintra and Loures hospitals, on both days, and Gynecology and Obstetrics services in Braga, Santarém, Leiria and Amadora-Sintra.
Health authorities recommend that the public contact the SNS24 Line (808 24 24 24) before going to an emergency room, in order to receive the most appropriate guidance.
