Coimbra: The biggest edition ever of the QuebraJazz Arts Festival celebrates the joy of encounters

These “Encounters” – those that remind us that there are always common points in difference – serve as the guiding thread of the QuebraJazz Arts Festival, which returns to Coimbra.
This 16th edition, the largest ever, celebrates the joy of encounters, with 40 cultural moments, involving 180 artists, taking place mostly at Quinta das Lágrimas and on the Quebra Costas steps.
And because “it is through sharing that art gains soul and becomes truly alive” – as Miguel Lima, director of the Inês de Castro Foundation, reminded us – this year's program is characterized by the diversity of artistic expressions, the intersection of cultures and the intimate dialogue with the city.
The festival begins tomorrow with the “unexpected encounter of a fado singer accompanying a jazz orchestra.” According to Cristina Castel-Branco, director of the 16th QuebraJazz Arts Festival, it will be a moment between Ricardo Ribeiro and pianist João Paulo Esteves da Silva from the 2019 album “Respeitosa Mente”.
