Are we paying for the most expensive gas in the world? The table that explains

Since 2020, gas prices have seen sharp increases (in many cases, double-digit increases) in most major urban centers around the world. With the war in Ukraine causing a massive supply shock, gas prices rose more than 40% in Budapest, Vienna, and Zurich—some of the hardest-hit cities in Europe. Meanwhile, Cairo and Bangkok saw price drops, becoming global outliers. In Portugal, despite Europe being the region that pays the most for a liter of gas, Lisbon was one of the cities with the smallest price increase, which stood at 19.3% between 2020 and 2025.
