AdC does not oppose the purchase of the Santa Apolónia Terminal by ETE

The Board of Directors of the Competition Authority (AdC) decided this Monday not to oppose the purchase of TSA – Santa Apolónia Terminal by Empresa de Trafego e Estiva – ETE, arguing that “it is not likely to create significant obstacles to effective competition in the national market or in a substantial part of it”.
TSA is already controlled by ETE and GSMARÍTIMA, which holds the Public Service Concession for the Activity of Handling Containerized and Fractional General Cargo at the TML Port Terminal — Lisbon Multipurpose Terminal.
The deal takes place two months after the AdC indicated that the Madeiran group Grupo Sousa, based in Funchal, would have to sell its 50% stake in TSA in order to complete its investment in Sotagus.
ETE belongs to the ETE Group, whose president is Luís Figueiredo, and is active in the areas of port operations, with a system of port terminals and concessions associated with logistics, river, sea, land and air transport, maritime transport of goods, with Shipowner activity, in technical management services for ships and crews, recruitment, training and support for the certification of ships and port facilities.
ETE is a stevedoring company dedicated to carrying out port operations in the Port of Lisbon, being the concessionaire of the Poço de Bispo Multipurpose Terminal and carrying out offshore operations for loading and unloading ships.
This is a first phase decision, and the AdC must work with sectoral regulatory bodies, which in this case is the AMT – Mobility and Transport Authority.
