We will be booking these hotels in 2026. They have one thing in common

In its latest report, Expedia Group has identified the trends that will have the greatest impact on international travel in 2026. Experts from the booking platform highlighted not only the increasingly popular destinations but also unconventional ways of traveling. Booking stays at agritourism properties isn't enough – now tourists will be looking for unique, historic architectural gems converted into hotels.
Tourists do not want to stay in "ordinary" hotelsFor many travelers, accommodation has gone from being just an extra to the main attraction of their trip. Choosing it can completely transform the experience, which is often the case when booking all-inclusive hotels. Guests in destinations where all meals and activities are already provided are less likely to venture into the city and explore local restaurants.
According to Expedia, in 2026, it won't be full-board resorts that will attract the most tourists. Travelers seeking authentic experiences are choosing not only agritourism but also unique architecture. One of next year's most interesting trends will be staying in historic buildings that have been transformed into unique hotels.
Hotel at the station, in the bank and in the prisonIn the report, Expedia highlights several noteworthy places that fit this pattern. These include the five-star Bank Hotel in Stockholm, which was once the bank's headquarters, and the beautiful palatial Fontevraud L'Ermitage in the Loire Valley, which is not only a hotel but also a 12th-century abbey.
A historic train station can also become a hotel – in Spain, the disused Canfranc station is no longer a place to wait for a train, but an opportunity for a truly luxurious stay. "An even more extraordinary example is the Bodmin Jail Hotel in Cornwall, where former prison cells in a supposedly haunted 18th-century prison have been transformed into exclusive rooms," we read.
