Bulgaria is an underrated country that has much more to offer tourists than just popular Black Sea resorts. If you decide to venture off the beaten track, you'll discover true treasures – from the picturesque mountain trails of Pirin and the Rhodope Mountains, through medieval monasteries, to atmospheric villages and towns brimming with local folklore. Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is a place where history intertwines with modernity. "Despite this, this country remains one of the least visited countries in Europe," writes The Telegraph, encouraging people to give Bulgaria a chance.

The new currency is a great opportunity

Bulgaria will soon have the opportunity to attract significantly more foreign visitors, thanks to a currency change planned for January 1, 2026. From that day on, tourists and residents will use the euro instead of the Bulgarian lev.

This opens the possibility of a major image shift. Until now, Bulgaria has been perceived as a low-budget destination that might not meet the expectations of tourists seeking high-quality experiences. As with Turkey and Egypt, Bulgaria is also considering moving away from the classic all-inclusive approach in favor of more sustainable forms of tourism.
