The equaliser was provided by the Frenchman Kylian Mbappe (68th), who with a total of 28 goals strengthened his position as the leader of the league's scoring chart. Lewandowski, who is in second place, has three goals less.
The draw was still Barcelona's advantage, as Real had to win to maintain their chances of overtaking them in the table. However, the team of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, who left for Brazil at the end of the season, eventually took full points, as 20-year-old Jacobo Roman scored his first goal for the senior Real Madrid team in the fifth minute of added time in the second half to set the score.
Second-placed Real Madrid have 78 points, while Barcelona, who beat them 4-3 in the previous round, have 82. They will face local rivals Espanyol in the derby on Thursday and must win to secure their third trophy of the season that day.
