500 plus for married couples. Payments from 5,000 to 8,000 PLN depending on the number of years spent together

"500 plus for married couples" would be a new benefit aimed at recognizing the durability of long-term relationships. On February 26, 2025, the Senate Petitions Committee unanimously decided to continue work on this petition P10-11/23. The Legislative Bureau has prepared a draft bill introducing the "500 plus for married couples" benefit.

The project is currently being analyzed by the Petitions Committee . It was the subject of the last meeting of the committee, which took place on June 10 - reports Infor.pl.

The project provides for payments from PLN 5,000 to even PLN 8,000 of one-time cash benefits for couples celebrating milestone wedding anniversaries, depending on the number of years spent together - reports Infor.pl.

The amount of payments would depend on the number of years spent in marriage: from PLN 5,000 for spouses with 50 years of marriage, up to PLN 8,000 for those who have been married for 80 years.

• 50 years - 5,000 PLN,
• 55 years old - PLN 5,500,
• 60 years - PLN 6,000,
• 65 years old - PLN 6,500,
• 70 years - PLN 7,000,
• 75 years - PLN 7,500,
• 80 years - 8,000 PLN.

The benefit would be financed from the budget of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy, and its granting would require submitting an appropriate application together with documentation from the Civil Registry Office confirming the length of the marriage.

The implementation of such a solution could cost the state budget even much more than PLN 1 billion per year. It was decided that the Petition Committee will return to discussing this matter during the next session.

According to the petitioner, couples with such a long marriage should receive a family benefit similar to the so-called honorary pension received by 100-year-olds (monthly). However, this benefit should be granted periodically and once.

One of the basic arguments in favour of "500 plus for married couples" is the need to appreciate the durability of marriage as the basic social unit.

Currently, couples who have been together for 50 years can only count on a medal from the state. In addition, for a long marital life, one can receive a diploma and congratulations from the president or city mayor.

The "500 plus for married couples" initiative was referred to the Human Rights, Rule of Law and Petitions Committee in February 2023. During the meeting of the Senate Petitions Committee (No. 38) in February 2025, the Committee unanimously decided to continue work on the idea. On March 21, 2025, the editorial office of Infor.pl received information that the Senate Petitions Committee had a draft bill prepared by the Legislative Bureau.
