- Tychy councillors blocked the construction of an incinerator.
- Disputes over the construction of an incineration plant in Tychy began during the presidency of Andrzej Dziuba.
- Maciej Gramatyka, the current city manager, announced that the installation in the Wilkowyje district would not be built.
Tychy city councillors have adopted a local development plan that excludes the construction of a thermal waste treatment plant in the Wilkowyje district.
In the area covered by the plan it is prohibited to:
- locations of all types of thermal waste treatment;
- location of plants posing a threat to human life or health, and in particular the risk of industrial accidents;
- location of new projects that may significantly impact the environment;
- location of projects with excessive impact in terms of gas, dust, noise and vibration emissions on residential areas, which may result in exceeding environmental quality standards.
Disputes over the construction of an incinerator in Tychy began during Andrzej Dziuba's term as mayor, in 2022. Maciej Gramatyka, the city's current governor, announced that the facility would not be built in the Wilkowyje district.
However, the topic was revived when, in October 2024, the provincial assembly adopted the waste management plan for the region for 2023-2028, and the Instalmedia company applied for development conditions.
Following pressure from residents, city authorities took concrete action to block the investment. Residents' protests also led the investor to withdraw its planning application. Mayor Gramatyka, however, announced that the development plans would be amended to ensure safety, which has now been done.
