The Sądeckie Waterworks wants to combat the illegal practice of connecting gutters or drain grates to the sanitary sewer network.

They report that illegal discharge of stormwater in this manner unfortunately occurs on a large scale and carries serious consequences. Above all, it significantly increases the operating costs of wastewater treatment plants. Additional environmental fees are one aspect, but so is the cost of pumping stormwater within the treatment plant itself.

The September inspections are aimed at checking where water from gutters, drain grates in front of garages, paved surfaces ends up and whether it is connected to the sanitary sewage system.

Waterworks employees will use smoke detectors , which allow them to determine whether the installation on a given property is properly draining rainwater.

If the inspection reveals irregularities, Sądeckie Wodociągi will send a letter to the property owner informing them of the irregularities identified during the inspection. This letter will include a request to permanently remove rainwater from the sanitary system within 30 days of the date the irregularities were identified, as well as information about the imposition of a compensation penalty of up to PLN 10,000.

The amount of the fine and its payment deadline will be determined by decision of the company's management board. However, if the owner fails to comply with the guidelines contained in the letter or the property owner refuses to pay the fine, the matter will be referred to the appropriate authorities for further proceedings.
