Popular bridge will soon be open to pedestrians and cyclists. Drivers will have to wait a bit longer

- According to information from the Gdańsk City Hall, the Siennicki Bridge in the city will be open to pedestrians and cyclists on July 15.
- This will end the ferry service, which currently transports residents and tourists from one side of the river to the other. The last runs will take place on July 14.
- There is also good news for "water lovers" - from July 15, they will be able to use the waterway running under the Siennicki Bridge again.
The Provincial Building Inspectorate in Gdańsk has just issued an opinion that the renovated Siennicki Bridge in that city is well secured.
- This means that in a week (July 15) pedestrians and cyclists will return to the bridge . Traffic will also be restored on the waterway under the bridge - reports the city service Gdansk.pl.
In the coming days, special metal footbridges will be installed, on which pedestrians and cyclists will be able to move. They will be led to by appropriate embankments - so that you do not have to get off your bike to enter the footbridges. Their width will be about three meters.

Car and tram traffic will return here after a general renovation.- In recent weeks, work has been carried out on the bridge to stabilise it. A support structure has been installed, and 16 piles, several dozen metres long, have been driven in to support the worn-out abutments of the Siennicki Bridge from the water side - in order to effectively secure the abutments against further sliding towards the river - reports Gdansk.pl.
On the approach side to the bridge, on land, in front of the abutments, earth was dug out so that its masses would not press on the abutments. Over the holes that will be created after the earth has been dug out, footbridges will be installed. Pedestrians and cyclists will move on them, and then the road will lead along the old bridge spans and finally the descent - again along the footbridge.
Car and tram traffic will return here after a general renovation and final strengthening of the abutments.
