Even PLN 400,000 in severance pay for employees of the power plant being shut down

- PGE has reached an agreement with trade unions at the Dolna Odra Power Plant, consistent with its strategy for a responsible energy transition. The job cuts will be implemented in stages, while ensuring social support and maintaining the country's energy security.
- Employees will receive severance pay of up to 30 times their salary, with the total cost of the protective package estimated at approximately PLN 250 million. Those approaching retirement will benefit from energy-related leave, while others will be able to find employment at PGE Group companies or take advantage of the Voluntary Redundancy Program.
- In the Gryfino region, PGE is investing PLN 7 billion in modern energy sources. Two 1,366 MW combined cycle gas-steam units have been commissioned, a heating plant is under construction, and a 400 MW energy storage facility is planned. The transformation in Dolna Odra is intended to serve as a model for changes in other PGE locations.
As noted in the press release, the agreement is consistent with PGE's responsible energy transition strategy. The process of reducing employment at the power plant will be gradual, meaning that some of the team will remain professionally active. At the same time, the decision to extend the operation of the Dolna Odra Power Plant and to decommission the coal-fired units in two stages until the end of August 2026 will ensure the continuity of energy supply and the country's energy security.
Employees of the Dolna Odra Power Plant will receive severance pay totalling up to 30 times the average monthly salary (i.e. up to PLN 400,000 gross per person).
Those who wish to remain professionally active will receive priority employment at other PGE Group companies and will be informed of vacancies before they are publicly announced. For those who do not plan to continue working at PGE Group, a comprehensive benefits package has been prepared, including one-time severance payments and the Voluntary Redundancy Program. Employees who are within four years of retirement will be eligible for retirement leave, which will pay 80% of their monthly salary, in accordance with the provisions of the Social Security Act.
The total cost of the protective package is estimated at approximately PLN 250 million .
PGE will also apply the responsible transformation model in other locations in the future."The agreement reached with trade union representatives at the Dolna Odra Power Plant demonstrates that PGE's energy transformation is being carried out with respect for people, their work, and local communities . I thank everyone at our company and the trade union representatives for their commitment to reaching this agreement. Together, we have developed a solution that provides real support to employees while simultaneously shifting the trajectory of the Polish energy sector towards modern, economically efficient, and low-emission energy sources. We will also implement this model of responsible transformation in other locations where we conduct coal-based operations in the future," emphasized Dariusz Marzec, CEO of PGE, as quoted in the press release.
"The agreement is a huge achievement and a source of satisfaction for us. For many months, we held intense talks, often difficult and requiring compromise, but we were always guided by a common goal: ensuring employees feel safe during the transformation. Dolna Odra Power Plant is a place with a rich history; for decades, it has been a pillar of the local economy and community . That's why it was so important that the transformation process be conducted with respect for the people who built it. Today's agreement is a guarantee that no one will be left behind," says Mariusz Kamiński, chairman of the MNSZZ Employees of the Dolna Odra Power Plant Complex.
A new era of energy in Gryfino - PGE is implementing a comprehensive investment programThe PGE Group is conducting a large-scale investment program in Gryfino (8 km from the Dolna Odra Power Plant) and the surrounding area, worth PLN 7 billion. Two combined cycle gas-steam units with a capacity of 1,366 MW were commissioned in 2024. From the first day of operation, the gas-fired power plant has become one of Poland's primary flexible generation sources, capable of providing energy for approximately 5% of households in the country, and providing employees with stable and secure employment for years to come.
The Gryfino Heating Plant is currently under construction, which will become a new heat source . Its commissioning is planned for the third quarter of 2026.
In August of this year, PGE announced a tender for the construction of another gas-fired unit at the Gryfino-Dolna Odra site. The 600 MW unit, based on an open-cycle gas turbine, is intended to supplement renewable energy production during periods of low generation or with high variability. Furthermore, PGE plans to build a 400 MW battery energy storage facility in Gryfino with a capacity of at least 800 MWh, supported by the Capacity Market. The planned date for completion of the tender process and selection of a contractor is December 2025.
Similar investments are also planned and implemented in other regions.
