Dog Day, celebrated in Poland on July 1, is a special holiday that was established to emphasize the extraordinary role of these four-legged friends and the role they play in human life. They are faithful companions, guardians, guides, but also irreplaceable partners in rescue, uniformed and therapeutic services.
The Border Guard in Podkarpacie has several dozen dogs. The four-legged companions take part in searching for weapons, ammunition, people and drugs. Their patrol and defense skills are also invaluable.
– emphasizes the spokesman of BiOSG, Lieutenant Piotr Zakielarz.
Reliable dog noses support officers of the Bieszczady Border Guard Unit in their service at border crossings and on the so-called green border. Most of them are German and Belgian Shepherds. Border Guard dogs are specialists in tracking people and searching for explosives, weapons, ammunition and drugs. Many of them also have a defensive function. They often participate in operations saving the lives and health of missing people. In their daily service, they check vehicle spaces, luggage and the area of border crossings for prohibited items. On the border, outside border crossings, they track people who try to cross it illegally.
– describes the service of quadrupeds.
The current regulations provide for the maintenance of dogs even after retirement. At that time, the four-legged friends most often end up in the homes of officers with whom they served on the border.
