In a shopping mall in Goleniów, he extorted money using the well-known method of “BLIK”. This time, however, his victims did not give up and called the police, thanks to which the fraudster and his partner were arrested.

The incident took place in a shopping mall in Goleniów. A 26-year-old approached a random man and said that he urgently needed financial help for his sick mother. He asked for a BLIK transfer. In return, he assured that he would return the money by sending a return transfer. The injured party transferred the funds, but did not receive a refund, and the transfer confirmation shown to him by the perpetrator, as it later turned out, was fake.

When the man realized he had been scammed, he and his wife called the police. The officers detained the man, who was still in the shopping mall. They managed to determine that he had been acting together with his partner. The next day, the woman was also detained by the police.

- The amounts extorted by the suspect were usually in the range of PLN 50 to PLN 300. These were sums that did not arouse much suspicion, and at the same time allowed for quick and repeated obtaining financial benefits from subsequent people - reports Senior Constable Martyna Kowalska from the District Police Headquarters in Goleniów.

Officers determined that the pair traveled throughout Poland using a similar mechanism – the man would arouse sympathy, present a false story about a sick mother, ask for a transfer, and then present a false confirmation of a refund. The victims did not receive their funds back.

- During the investigation, it was determined that the couple may have committed many similar crimes in different parts of the country. The number of victims is still growing, and the case is developing - informs Senior Constable Martyna Kowalska.

The activities are being conducted under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Goleniów. At its request, the District Court in Goleniów imposed a 3-month temporary arrest on both suspects. They face up to 8 years of imprisonment.
