Painful farewell

Painful farewell

We, six children, stand around my mother's bedside, who will pass away in a few hours after a year and a half in a nursing home. We are sad, but also accepting of the situation. He looks serious and sits down on the bed with her. There's no real reaction; he looks even more worried and says, "You can tell she's in pain." To which his older brother replies, "Do you mind if you sit on her leg?"
