Since entering the international elite cycling scene, Mexican Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates) has been dedicated solely to achieving feats. Now, the Mexican has achieved a historic result after finishing second in the seventh stage of the Giro d'Italia, one of the most traditional competitions, while also moving up to third in the overall standings; a result that confirms his potential.
The closing stage—the first mountain stage of the competition—was epic for the Mexican, who fought back in the final meters while battling three other riders for victory. Del Toro responded with a surprising sprint to overtake Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora), one of the world's leading athletes, who on this occasion was relegated to fourth place.
Thus, the Baja California native finished in second place, just 0.04 seconds behind his teammate, Juan Ayuso of Spain, who celebrated his first victory in the competition. Third place went to Colombian Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers), another of the top representatives of this discipline.

At just 21 years old, Del Toro has already made history in Mexican cycling. Since finishing with the best young rider jersey at the Tour Down Under in November 2024, where he won a stage, he has emerged as one of the sport's top national prospects.
Without pressure and with increasingly extraordinary performances, the Baja California native has been confirming his status as an elite cyclist. In the Vuelta a España, he finished in the top 10 in two stages, while also finishing 36th in the overall standings.
Now in Italy, he has demonstrated the experience he has gained over these months by supporting Ayuso and fighting for the top spots. He is even the highest-ranked Latin American in the competition, ahead of international leaders such as Colombian Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost), who is in tenth place.
Yesterday's route of the 2025 Giro d'Italia runs from Castel di Sangro to Tagliacozzo. It's 168 kilometers of mountainous terrain with a total elevation gain of 3,500 meters, a demanding stage that included four rated climbs and culminated with a tricky ascent.
Stage 8 will be held this Saturday, a 197-kilometer mid-mountain route between Giulianova and Castelraimondo. Del Toro's chance at glory is another.

Tennis player Rodrigo Pacheco will make history by becoming the first Mexican to play in the qualifying round of Roland Garros in 15 years, after Santiago González did so in the 2010 edition.
The native of Córdoba, Veracruz (48th on the ATP list), fell in the second round to Frenchman Benoit Paire in three sets.
Meanwhile, this will be Pacheco's first appearance in a major tournament, just 20 years old, since turning professional.
The Mérida, Yucatán native, currently ranked 230th in the ATP rankings , advanced to the men's singles rankings thanks to the withdrawal of Japanese player Sho Shimabukuro. He will therefore seek a spot in the main draw of the French Grand Slam starting May 19.

Barcelona. A huge celebration took place yesterday in the streets of Barcelona. The Blaugrana team was welcomed by around 670,000 fans, according to the Guàrdia Urbana, who celebrated their La Liga title after beating Espanyol 2-0 on Thursday, with two matches remaining in the tournament.

Now a champion of the Liga MX Femenil, Charlyn Corral has returned to the Mexican national team. In Ciudad Victoria, Tamps., Eduardo Alfonso N was sentenced to 260 years in prison by a trial court for the crime of aggravated kidnapping against the relatives of soccer player Rodolfo Pizarro, which occurred on January 26, 2024. The defendant must pay 3 million 80 thousand pesos in damages and a fine of 42 thousand days of minimum wage. Eduardo Alfonso N murdered and kidnapped Pizarro's aunt; however, the player's mother and uncle were also in danger in that act.
