Sheinbaum celebrates exemption from USMCA tariffs on auto parts, this is what she said

During her Friday morning press conference, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the Donald Trump administration has exempted Mexican auto parts from paying tariffs under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) .
“Yesterday there was very good news for Mexico. Auto parts produced in our country will have zero tariffs,” Sheinbaum said, celebrating this measure. The decision was formalized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard explained that this provision translates into direct instructions to customs authorities to ensure that auto parts made in Mexico receive preferential treatment under the USMCA . That is, they will be treated as if they had been manufactured in the United States and, therefore, will not pay tariffs when crossing the border .
"It's a very large industry in Mexico," Ebrard stated, highlighting the importance of the automotive sector to the national economy. The measure will benefit an industry that exports more than $70 billion in auto parts each year.
The president asserted that the elimination of tariffs on Mexican auto parts is a sign of progress in economic relations between Mexico and the United States. In this context, she explained that she has maintained direct communication with President Donald Trump , with whom she recently agreed to work together to improve bilateral trade balance .
He also emphasized that this measure is aligned with the so-called Plan Mexico , an economic stimulus strategy that his administration seeks to implement to increase the country's competitiveness and attract greater investment .
The automotive industry is one of the strongest in the Mexican economy, generating thousands of jobs and with a strong presence in the northern and Bajío regions of the country. The tariff exemption represents relief for hundreds of companies that depend on trade with the United States and reinforces the idea that the USMCA remains a vital tool for maintaining Mexico's competitiveness in the international market.
Sheinbaum concluded her message by reiterating that her government will continue to seek better trade conditions for other productive sectors.
