Following Federico Sturzenegger's remarks, unions warn of "the massive layoff of permanent state workers."

After Federico Sturzenegger announced a new plan to reduce the state structure and a “significant restructuring” of public agencies , state unions came out to warn of an imminent wave of layoffs .

"If that happens, we would be facing a massive transition to permanent state workers," Rodolfo Aguiar told Futurock.

The secretary general of the State Workers Association maintained that the term used by the national official, "refunctionalization," implies the entry of international corporations seeking to "plunder" the country's natural resources .

The union leader maintained that the objective of the Libertarian government's plan is to "create conditions for the surrender of all our natural resources."

On Sunday, during an interview on LN+, Minister Sturzenegger said he is working on a review of approximately 700,000 decrees, many of which are still unknown as to whether they are still active or what impact they currently have.

"Our goal is to thoroughly clean up the country by the end of the year so that Argentines know the specific rules we have in place," he said.

The national official also explained that he achieved a spending reduction equivalent to five percentage points of the Gross Domestic Product, and reaffirmed that the spending reduction is "unavoidable," linking the continuation of this plan to the fiscal surplus.

However, the unions stated that the reduction highlighted by the official does not translate into benefits for the population.

"We have a count that shows that 6,000 of those involved in ATE have been laid off, but the total for the state is 11,000. There were many reinstatements resulting from sectoral disputes, and others ordered by the courts, but we continue to demand the immediate reinstatement of those who have been illegally dismissed," Aguiar stated.
