After announcing his absence at the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, Javier Milei will travel to the Vatican in June to meet him.

After suspending his trip to the Vatican for the inauguration ceremony of Pope Leo XIV , President Javier Milei is planning a visit to the Holy See to hold an audience with the Pontiff, possibly in June. Milei canceled the invitation because the ceremony will take place while the legislative elections are being held in Buenos Aires.

According to the Argentine news agency Noticias, the president's team at the Vatican is coordinating details to schedule a meeting with the new Pope Leo XIV . Milei traveled to Rome to attend Pope Francis' funeral, where she was in the front row, and had planned to attend the inauguration of his successor, but the date coincided with the elections to be held for the Buenos Aires Legislature, where one of the biggest names in La Libertad Avanza, Manuel Adorni, will contest.

The Argentine president's international agenda will also include a visit to Israel , a trip he was unable to complete in March due to a renewed escalation of the conflict in the Gaza Strip and the delicate situation in Argentina. The escalation of the war, coupled with unrest in Argentina over the harsh repression during the pensioners' marches, led Milei to postpone his schedule.

Milei hopes to strengthen bilateral ties with her visit to Israel and sign the Memorandum for Freedom, Democracy, Against Terrorism, and Antisemitism, a document that seeks to contrast with the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Cristina Kirchner with Iran in 2013.

In Israel, Milei was also scheduled to speak in Parliament and attend the presentation of the Genesis Prize , a recognition given by the Jewish community to prominent international figures. Since the presidential debates in 2023, Milei began to gain the appreciation of the Jewish community for his firm stance in the conflict against Hamas, a stance that was strengthened once he was elected and assumed the presidency of Argentina. As he did with the United States, Milei described Israel as one of the " pillars of the West against the advance of leftist ideologies and 'wokism '."
