Donald Trump suspends trade negotiations with Canada

INTERNATIONAL WRITING.— US President Donald Trump has suspended trade negotiations with Canada , arguing that his northern neighbor “fraudulently used an advertisement” in which former President Ronald Reagan appears speaking ill of tariffs .
In a post on his Truth Social network on Thursday night, Trump claimed: “The Ronald Reagan Foundation just announced that Canada fraudulently used a fake ad featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about tariffs. The ad cost $75,000. They did this only to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO U.S. NATIONAL SECURITY AND THE ECONOMY.”
Along these lines, he added that “due to its atrocious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE TERMINATED.”

Canada is one of the US's main trading partners, but relations between the two countries have cooled since Trump's return to the White House.
According to US media, the television ad Trump is referring to was promoted by the government of Ontario, Canada's most populous province.
The ad uses a 1987 audio clip of former President Ronald Reagan , who called tariffs harmful to the economy , but the current White House resident believes it is misrepresented.
