This was revealed in a report by the consulting firm LCG, which detailed that in the last four weeks, basic basket products rose 3.4% on average and 2.5% in the end-to-end comparison. Meat was the item with the greatest increase, climbing 6.9%.
Breaking down the performance of the different categories, the survey indicated that in the fourth month of the year, only two of the ten categories surveyed were above the average, which ended the month at 3.4%. Thus, the meat category doubled the overall figure, climbing 6.9% in the last four weeks.
Meat consumption
Condiments followed, rising 5.5% over the same period. In contrast, oil and vegetables saw prices drop by up to 1.6%.
In its weekly measurement, the consulting firm noted that prices for the 10 categories it tracks have not changed over the past seven days, noting that during that period, six commodity categories, such as sugar, showed price declines of up to 2.8% .
This indication of some price stability comes after the back-and-forth between supermarkets and suppliers over the desired price increases following the lifting of the exchange rate restrictions and the fluctuating exchange rate.
