ArtIs, art becomes a festival in Vicenza

By Shirin Neshat, director and photographer Iranian among the most influential voices in contemporary art, British artists Ackroyd & Harvey, pioneers of art environmental, up to Katharine Dowson in dialogue with the neurobiologist Semir Zeki of University College London. And then great Italian names such as Arcangelo Sassolino, Ugo Nespolo, Emilio Isgrò, Gian Maria Tosatti, Nicola Samorì, and authoritative art critics and historians such as Martin Kemp (Oxford), Bill Sherman (Warburg Institute), Martin Gayford, Flavio Caroli, Cristiana Collu, Vincenzo Trione. They will be the protagonists of the very international festival, of art "ArtIs": a unique event in Italy in the panorama of the thousand festivals that follow one another throughout the year and which puts at the centre the artist and the creative process (the claim of the event is "There is no art without an artist"), with meetings, lectures, performances, workshops and educational activities for schools and families. The festival will be held in Vicenza from 10th to 16th November and will be a "widespread" festival that will take place among the symbolic places of the city of Palladio, starting from the Teatro Olimpico, Palazzo Chiericati and the Bertoliana Library. The challenge lies there. also because, says the mayor of Vicenza, Giacomo Possamai, "being the city of Palladio risks overshadowing everything else, which is a lot, what the city offers from an artistic point of view". Vicenza, explains the creator of the festival, Vittorio Bo, "it will be a large square, a place for discussion and dialogue", in short, a great celebration of art, with the artist and the opportunity for the public to know him and to be able to understand him contemporary art through those who bring it to life, through, as the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, recalls, "the social and human creative universe of those who make art, of the artifex". In the title of the festival, ArtIs, the suffix "is" is to be understood as read, in fact, in English as a verb: "Is accompanies the sense to define art" underlines the artistic director of the Marina Wallace festival inviting to note the importance of "focus attention on those who produce art" by overcoming even that certain "form of public resistance in comparisons of the contemporary artist". The UNESCO World Heritage city will then be transformed into a stage for performance events, workshops and above all meetings that will also be held at the Gallerie D'Italia-Vicenza, at the Zoé Foundation, at the Diocesan Museum of Vicenza, at the Museum Naturalistic Archaeological, in the Palladian Basilica, at Palladio Museum, in Porto Burci and Astertre. Palazzo Valmarana Braga, an unfinished work by Andrea Palladio, will also become a artistic residence: Francesca Braga Rosa, owner of the The palace will host the Venetian artist, Matilde Sambo who will will develop a site-specific project.
