2025 municipal elections in Veneto: where to vote and mayoral candidates

Venice, May 19, 2025 – Over 56,000 voters called to the polls on May 25 and 26. In the Veneto region, nine municipalities will be involved in the renewal of the city council and mayoral elections.

In some municipalities the mayor has died, in others they return to the polls after political disagreements.

The numbers show 25 mayoral candidates for 9 municipalities, 56,632 total voters called to vote.

There are eight municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants and only one ( Santa Maria di Sala ) exceeds this number.

Voting will take place over two days : Sunday 25 May from 7am to 11pm and Monday 26 May from 7am to 3pm , with the counting of votes to follow.

Let's find out who the candidates are in the nine municipalities divided by province.

Province of Belluno: two municipalities to vote

In this territory two municipalities are called to the polls for the same reason, that is, the death of the mayors. In San Nicolò di Comelico there are 365 voters, only one list is expected, that of 'Obiettivo in comune' with candidate for mayor Davide De Rigo Cromaro . In this one they are voting to replace the deceased mayor Giancarlo Ianese.

In the Municipality of Sospirolo there are 3498 voters who will go to the renewal of the municipal council and mayor, after the death of the mayor Mario De Bon , also in this case only one list that of 'Progetto Sospirolo' with candidate for mayor Livia Cadore . In both municipalities, therefore, it will be necessary to reach the quorum to avoid the administration.

Province of Padua: Ospedaletto Euganeo to vote

In the Padua area, the Municipality of Ospedaletto Euganeo will renew its city council, after a year of administration following the resignation of seven councilors from the majority led by Mayor Giacomo Scapin.

The 4,736 voters will have to choose between four lists. In the order of extraction of the lists, some political and others civic, 'Comune e cittadini' candidate for mayor Giacomo Scapin (outgoing mayor), 'Passione Comune' candidate for mayor Stefano Gallo , 'Rinascita civica' candidate for mayor Fabio Vigato and 'Voltiamo pagina' candidate for Severina Masiero .

Province of Rovigo: four mayoral candidates in Porto Viro

In the municipality of Porto Viro , 12,455 voters will be called to the polls for the renewal of the municipal council and the mayor, after the expiration of the assembly following the appointment of the mayor Valeria Mantovan as regional councilor after three years from her election.

Four lists, some political, others civic, three men and one woman. In the order of extraction of the lists 'Porto Viro in the center - Armida Panizzo mayor' (civic), civic list 'Porto Viro is you! Giacon mayor' candidate for mayor Tomas Giacon 'Porto Viro safe - FdI Lega Forza Italia UDC with Stefano Permunian mayor' and 'Viva Porto Viro- Mantovan Mario mayor'.

Province of Treviso: an all-female challenge in Borso del Grappa

In the Municipality of Borso del Grappa , we return to the polls after the resignation of nine city councilors and subsequent administration. The 5,403 voters will be called to choose between two candidates, one civic and the other center-right. In the order of extraction of the lists 'Borso con Fiore' candidate for mayor Fiorella Ravagnolo and 'Lega Fratelli d'Italia e civici per Celotto Lisa' with candidate for mayor Lisa Celotto .

Province of Venice: Voting in two municipalities

In the Municipality of Eraclea , voting takes place after years of administrative 'earthquakes'.

Since 2019, two different commissioners have been appointed since 2019. We remember the judicial storm involving the then mayor Mirco Mestre , then the mayor Nadia Zanchin was distrusted on December 20th. Now at the next administrative elections, the 10,576 voters of the Venetian municipality will have to choose the new mayor from four lists, again between civic and one clearly political. In the Municipality of Santa Maria di Sala , there will be three challengers for the office of mayor, two of them with a divided center-right, while the center-left is united for its 25-year-old candidate, the youngest in Veneto. Voting is back after the former mayor Natascia Rocchi was removed following the resignation of the majority of city councilors. There will be 14,901 voters, lists and candidates. 'Santa Maria di Sala civic Insieme Pd, M5S, AVS' candidate for mayor Massimo Iovine . Three connected lists are supporting the candidacy of Natascia Rocchi : 'Forza Italia Lista Salese Il bene comune', 'alternativo civica Natascia Rocchi sindaca' and 'Progetto rinascita comune'. The candidate for mayor Alessandro Arpi will be supported by four lists 'Frarelli d'Italia-Giorgia Meloni for Arpi mayor', 'Generations to grow', 'Lega – Liga Veneta' and 'Indipendenza Veneta for Arpi mayor'.

Province of Verona: Bevilacqua and Castagnaro to vote

In the lower Veronese area there are two municipalities that will renew their respective municipal councils. In order, Bevilacqua returns to the polls following the death of the historic mayor Valentino Girlanda , which occurred on November 2nd.

The 1,514 voters of the municipality of Verona will be able to choose between two lists. In order, the civic list 'Together to Administer-Bevilacqua and Marega' candidate for mayor Maurizio Arzeton , the list 'Progetto Comune per Bevilacqua e Marega' candidate for mayor Marco Alessandro Grazia .

Another municipality will be that of Castagnaro. A municipality that must renew the municipal council after about seven months of commissionership, following the resignation of ten municipal councils and the consequent dismissal of the mayor Christian Formigaro . The 3,184 voters of the lower Veronese will have to choose between four lists, with the centre-right divided into three fronts. In order 'Territory and Future. Castagnaro and Menà' mayoral candidate Christian Formigaro , close to Forza Italia. Then 'Competence and experience towards tomorrow' mayoral candidate Michele Sordo , already mayor between 1995 and 2004. Another list close to the centre-right 'Progetto Civico – Castagnaro and Menà' mayoral candidate Jonathan Modenese . The fourth list is from the centre-left 'Aria Nuova' with candidate Luca Sordo .
