Waiting for the Giro d'Italia: the "Corrente" arrives in Piazzola sul Brenta

Piazzola sul Brenta is preparing to host, on May 27, the start of the 16th stage of the Giro d'Italia, an event that will project the town of Medio Brenta onto the international stage of great cycling.
As part of the many initiatives promoted to celebrate this occasion, “Corrente” was inaugurated in Piazza Camerini, an artistic installation made with recycled materials, a symbol of the vocation for cycle tourism and environmental sustainability of the area. The initiative, promoted together with Confapi Padova, represents a perfect example of synergy between public bodies, businesses and the world of creativity. Confapi Padova, which has always been committed to enhancing the productive and cultural fabric of the area, saw in this installation an original way to combine art, circular economy and social sensitivity, in line with its founding values. The inauguration was attended by the mayor of Piazzola sul Brenta Valter Milani, the sports councilor Achille Zambon and the urban planning councilor Igor Callegari. Confapi Padova was represented by the vice president Franco Pasqualetti, the president of ConfapiD Antonia Perozzo and the associates Mauro Leoni (Mungo Italia srl), Matteo Fasolato (Expyou srl) and Stefano Micheletto (Micheletto srl).
Corrente is an upcycling (creative reuse) artistic installation, designed and created by Euganea Style SaS, a young and dynamic company specializing in sustainable furnishings, installations and works of art, in collaboration with Creazioni Dislessiche by Marco Mutta, an artist who has been active in the field of creative reuse for years and a convinced promoter of sustainable development and the circular economy. The work represents a bicycle from 1870: a visual and sensorial monument dedicated to cyclists who cut through the air with their movement, a symbol of energy, lightness and change, in perfect harmony with the values of creative reuse. It is a declaration of love for the bicycle, sustainability and art made with hands, head and heart. Inspired by the physical concept of the "wake" that helps cyclists gain speed, each part of the installation is made with components of 20 discarded bicycles, from the Faenza recovery center. The wheels are the visual soul of the sculpture and the forks act as load-bearing parts of the wheels. The frames were transformed into the main frame, and each original component was reused to recreate the corresponding part. In addition, other metal elements were reworked both as decorations and as functional parts, giving life to a work full of meaning and creativity. A thorn was placed at the base that, from the grass, ideally feeds the bicycle: an invitation to reflect while waiting for a definitive connection between us and mother earth for a more sustainable future. The work develops horizontally over 4.8 meters and reaches a height of 3.8 meters. The largest wheel will have a diameter of 3.2 meters, while the smallest will stand out for its diameter of about 70 cm. The supporting base of the work is made with chestnut trunks and an old trachyte millstone, both from the suggestive Euganean Hills. Everything was recovered, selected and carefully recomposed to give life to a work that tells stories of the past and the future.
Throughout the duration of the exhibition, the work will interact with the element of air, generating a natural, light and non-invasive sound: a poetic, almost musical call that will evoke the breath of the wind and movement. Achille Zambon, Councilor for Sport for Piazzola sul Brenta, states: «With Corrente we are celebrating not only the Giro d'Italia, but Piazzola's deep connection with cycling, sport and sustainability. It is a work that speaks to everyone: citizens, athletes, artisans, those who love the beauty that comes from hands and thoughts. We really wanted this project to find space in the heart of the city, in Piazza Camerini, because it is here that art meets everyday life. It is also an invitation to look forward, to pedal together towards a more aware, responsible and creative future». Franco Pasqualetti, Vice President of Confapi Padova, adds: «Today we are not just celebrating an installation, but a symbol of determination, innovation and sustainability. Cycling represents the ability to face challenges with courage, just like our associated companies do, which pedal towards progress every day. Confapi, with its small and medium-sized businesses, embodies the spirit of cyclists: the resilience of those who don't give up, the vision of those who look ahead, the ambition of those who want to leave a mark. And, just as the Giro d'Italia unites the country through the roads, businesses unite it through innovation and growth. We are proud to celebrate all this in Piazzola sul Brenta, together with an attentive and active municipal administration, a point of reference for an area where our companies are numerous and rooted. The real victory, for cycling and for businesses, is not only the final finish line, but the path that leads us to build a stronger, more sustainable and more connected Italy".
